Emma Watson and her sticky-fingered pals are going to bring some bling (and hopefully not steal any on their way out) to Cannes Film Festival later this month.
Sofia Coppola-directed will premiere during the Un Certain Regard portion of the festival, the Cannes Film Festival announced on Wednesday. While “The Bling Ring” is showing at the festival, it won’t be eligible for the big prize, the Palme d’Or, given that it’s premiering during the Un Certain Regard.
Watson and her “Bling Ring” co-stars sat down with MTV News last Friday during Sneak Peek Week, where she not only dished about taking dancing cues from Beyoncé, but also revealed how she managed to get so good at pole dancing.
“[Co-star] Claire [Julien] actually taught me a bunch of moves,” she said about her work in the June 14 movie release. “You have to be very physically strong to hold your own body weight, and I really didn’t have that core strength initially, so that was pretty intimidating. And, also, I’m just a really awkward sexy person, so basically the scene turned into me just messing around because I think Sofia thought, ‘We need to give her a break.’ “
The film also stars Katie Chang, Israel Broussard and Taissa Farmiga and is based on the real-life story of a group of teenagers who stole from some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Not enough shiny star power for you? Well, blingy can also be used to describe the Leonardo DiCaprio/Carey Mulligan starring “The Great Gatsby,” which is opening up Cannes. The Baz Luhrmann-directed flick will kick off the festivities, days after it opens in U.S. theaters on May 10.
