Because it would be selfish to horde the world’s supply of Taylor Swift for itself, the United States has graciously agreed to lend the “Shake It Off” singer to France, at least temporarily while she promotes her album.
On Sunday (October 5), the 24-year-old singer-songwriter set off for what would surely be a magical trek to Europe. (Meredith and Olivia are probably fine. I’m sure BFFs Lena Dunham and Karlie Kloss are cat-sitting in their matching pioneer-woman nightgowns as we speak.) With a 7:00 a.m. flight out of New York, though, things did not get off to the most magical of starts.
“bright eyed and ready to take on the next adventure! …….nope.”

Yet Taylor persevered, possibly after an emergency 50cc of creamy Ladurée macarons or something. (Pretty sure that’s how French universal healthcare works.)
And on Monday (October 6), she hit up French radio station NRJ (pronounced “enn-air-djee” like the french word for “energy”) — after she took some selfies with a bunch of French Swifties waiting for her outside the building, that is.
Oh my god, it’s Taylor!

During her NRJ interview, Swift talked about everything from her “female idols” growing up (Shania Twain, Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani) to her increased presence on social media lately. They even ate some of Tay Tay’s homemade cookies on air, or at least went really far out of their way to mime doing so for listeners at home. Either way, consider me hungry.
She also answered fan questions. When asked why she’s ditching guitars for automated drums and layered vocals on 1989 — which drops October 27 — she explained: “I just felt myself naturally gravitating towards making pop music.” She also revealed that her favorite song on the album is “Out Of The Woods” and that she won’t be adopting a third cat anytime soon: “I don’t need trois.”

One particularly standout moment came when a male Swiftie called in, telling Taylor that his buds make fun of him and call him “gay” for listening to the singer’s “girl” music. Her response: “Listening to my music is just as manly as growing out a full beard. It’s just like chopping up trees in the backyard and building a log cabin. Everyone knows that. You tell them that.”
Hey, nothing wrong with being gay and listening to so-called “girl” music like Taylor Swift’s (I, uh, know from experience), but still — nicely handled, Ms. Swift.
Before calling it quits on Monday, Taylor popped by “Le Grand Journal,” a nightly talk show on French TV, to perform her current hit single, “Shake It Off.”
Or as the French call it, “Le Shake It Off.”
Oh, wait! One last thing.
