The MTV Movie Awards were bigger and badder than ever before this year, no small thanks to Conan O’Brien’s stupendous turn as host. But his quips and fast-moving pace for the Awards weren’t the only big moment of the night.
Here’s every Movie Awards moment that mattered:
“The Fault In Our Stars” Exclusive Clip
Our first chance to see a scene from the eagerly anticipated “The Fault In Our Stars” would have been good enough, but to have it presented by stars Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley? Magic.
Puppy Pit
Seriously, there was a pit full of puppies dressed in movie costumes getting nuzzled by celebrities. How could that not be a moment that mattered? Heck, that might be the only moment that mattered.
Grumpy Cat Rocked The Carpet
You wouldn’t normally think cats and carpets would go together, but Grumpy Cat was the hit of the red carpet, rocking Pharrell’s hat and snapping cat selfies with everyone.
Conan’s Epic Opener
He promised a record breaking 50 cameos, and Conan delivered — and then some, with the biggest awards show opening of all time.
Feeling Vine
Did we get awesome Vine versions of Movie Awards nominated movies? We sure did.
The “Lack” Of Musical Number
Promising there would be no musical number, Conan pulled out a guitar and welcomed guest Adam Devine on stage to sing about how they’re not going to do a song. And then a gospel choir came out. Good thing they didn’t sing a song!
Jared Leto Dedicates His Award
In a night filled with frivolity and ridiculousness, Jared Leto brought a welcome note of gravity by accepting his award in honor of AIDS victims all over the world.
Rihanna and Eminem Became Friends With A Monster
Rih Rih and Em performed “Mon,” which you might better know as “Monster;” and rocked the Movie Awards to their core. How long until these two do a movie together?
Jessica Alba Intros Zeek Offram
In a move reminiscent of John Travolta’s epic mess-up of Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscar’s Jessica Alba had an interesting way of saying Best Shirtless Performance winner Zac Efron’s name, too.
Rita Ora Rips Zeek Offram’s Shirt Off
Undeterred by Alba’s gaffe, Rita Ora wins the night by ripping Zac Efron’s shirt right off his body. Yowza.
Ellie Goulding and Zedd Makes Us Weep The duo emotionally performed “Beating Heart,” and now we want to see “Divergent” one more time.
Leto Goes On Vacation
Introducing the Best Kiss category, a clearly ready to go on vacation Jared Leto hilariously asked several members of the audience to come snuggle with him. Or go to Coachella. Whichever came first.
Will Poulter Gets Dumped
Accepting the award for Best Kiss, Will Poulter bragged that he and Jennifer Aniston were kind of an item… Only to have Aniston “dump” Poulter by text on stage.
“X-Men: Days Of Future Past” Clip
When Ellen Page introduced an exclusive clip from “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” we knew it would be awesome, but the show of powers — including fan-favorites we’d never seen before — blew us away.
Tris Wins Fan Favorite Character
Why is this a huge deal? Because Tris is the main character in “Divergent,” a new, upstart trilogy facing down the blockbuster “Hunger Games” franchise — and she won fan favorite character. For a series that just announced they’ll be splitting their final film into two parts, this is a promising start.
Paul Walker Remembered
A heartfelt and tear-inducing tribute to the late star featured remarks by co-star Jordana Brewster. No words.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” Clip
The highly anticipated clip from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” did not disappoint. But the best part? Spider-Man saves everyone.
Channing Tatum Gets Cut Off By Conan’s…
Though Channing Tatum’s acceptance of the Trailblazer Award was appropriately emotional, it was him getting cut off by Conan’s d**k pics that’ll really stick in our brains. Wrong choice of words, maybe, but true.
Seth Rogen Makes Out With His Mom
In an awards show filled with sexy moments, probably the least sexy was Seth Rogen making out with his own Mom. Still, we’re suckers for love: hope those crazy kids can work things out!
Mark Wahlberg Wins The “Too F–king Old” Award
Generation Award winner Mark Wahlberg hilariously joked that this was the “too f–king old to return” award after receiving the honor from most of the cast of “Entourage.” Jokes aside, we’re pretty sure Wahlberg will be back next year for “Transformers 4.” Just a hunch.
“The Hunger Games” Wins Best Movie
It was the big award of the evening, and could it have gone to anything else? Of course not: “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” was the biggest movie of the year, and went home with the biggest prize. Chins up, smiles on everybody!
