The last we saw of Katy Perry, she was showing off her pizza print nails behind the scenes at the “How We Do” music video shoot. On her two Harper’s Bazaar October covers, however, things are bit more glamorous.

Katy–who is back to her dark hair the entire shoot–kicks things off in a beaded, bright red Giorgio Armani Prive gown. The piece dubs Katy “The Lady In Red,” so it’s all red everything throughout. While the dress looks like it could weigh, approximately, 500 pounds, Katy manages to balance in a circular window–so either it’s not that heavy, or she has a great center of gravity.

On the alternate cover, things get a little pinker with Katy in Schiaparelli Haute Couture and a–no biggie, JK!–$16,000 ring from Parulina. Those soft curls combined with the soft light are serving up some real Old Hollywood vibes. The overall aesthetic is updated, though, with that her thick, perfect cat eye.

In the interview, Katy talks fashion, revealing that her 2010 Met Gala dress from Cute Circuit was a last minute decision. Katy was set to wear a gown from Viktor & Rolf, but “‘one of their factories burned down or something a week before.’ She remembered something she’d found online, a super-camp glow-in-the-dark dress—with an extra set of batteries—by a brand called Cute Circuit.” See? Tumblr isn’t the first site Katy ever trolled for inspiration–she’s been doing this for years.

She also talks about who she dresses for and–newsflash–it isn’t bloggers. She cites “Chloë Sevigny to Björk to Daphne Guinness” as her style icons, describing them as “ballsy girls.” If wearing head-to-toe denim with Riff-Raff by your side to the VMAs doesn’t make you ballsy, than I don’t know what does.
While Katy might not be dressing for the likes of me, I happen to be incredibly into everything she wears. Case in point? This orchid-print Fendi gown. Katy, I’ve never worn a bandage dress, so maybe we could, um, hang out or something? Lemme know.
