Is redemption still in Jaime Lannister’s future?
That’s a question that many fans are wondering given his actions in last week’s episode of “Game of Thrones,” titled “Breaker of Chains.” As the fourth hour of season four looms, so does the question about Jaime’s future salvation. His sister and lover, Cersei, meanwhile, only has one thing on her mind: Revenge — and it’s a prize she’ll snatch up no matter the price.
Read on for seven of our predictions about tonight’s episode, from the fallout of Jaime and Cersei to beyond the great Wall of Westeros.
1. Cersei and Jaime won’t be getting along.
And are you surprised, based on how last week played out? In the preview for tonight’s episode, Cersei and Jaime share a scene, but it’s all business. “If I asked you to leave the capital right now and find Sansa, and bring me her head, would you do it,” she barks at him. Next, we see Jaime pick up his new Valyrian sword. Is he feeling any remorse for what happened in the sept?
2. Brienne will find something new.
The title of the episode is “Oathkeeper,” which fans of the books know as the name of Jaime’s Valyrian sword. If that tells us anything, it tells us that Jaime and Brienne will have an important, touching scene at some point in the hour — a scene that might be one of the last between these two characters.
3. Littlefinger will pull back the curtain.
With Sansa in his clutches, and Ser Dontos murdered right before her eyes, Littlefinger must be feeling mighty good about himself. Is it too much to hope that he’ll reveal the full extent of what happened to Joffrey during the Purple Wedding? Perhaps, but now that he’s fully returned to the story, it can’t be long before Littlefinger tells Sansa how he did what he did.
4. Tyrion will wait and wait some more.
The Imp remains in captivity, charged with the murder of the king. As he awaits trial, Tyrion’s story will feel reminiscent of his days in the Eyrie back in season one — only this time, the scenery won’t be as breathtaking and vertigo-inducing.
5. Jon will train.
In the preview for “Oathkeeper,” we see Jon sword fighting with fellow members of the Night’s Watch. Is he preparing them for Mance Rayder’s upcoming assault on the Wall, or is he training them to make a move against their fellow brothers shacked up at Craster’s Keep? Either way, acting Lord Commander Alliser Thorne isn’t about to start taking orders from a low-level bastard, highborn or otherwise.
6. Dany will enter stealth mode.
Conquering Astapor was easy. Taking down Yunkai wasn’t much harder. But Meereen might prove a tougher nut to crack for Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. (Yikes, that’s a mouthful.) Expect her to result to some shadowy tactics in order to sack the final great city of Slaver’s Bay.
7. Winter is coming, and so are the White Walkers.
The final shot of the “Oathkeeper” trailer features a gaunt, pale-skinned face with hollow, ice-blue eyes. White Walkers, anyone? We haven’t seen one of these bitter-cold menaces since “Sam the Slayer” was born in season three. But if that final shot is any indication, the White Walkers might make a comeback at some point in tonight’s episode.
What do you think will happen in tonight’s episode of “Game of Thrones”?
