Gucci Mane’s Fans ‘#Salute’ Him For Committing To Rehab

After going on an all-encompassing Twitter tirade that attacked everyone from record executives to Nicki Minaj and T.I.’s wife, Gucci Mane is finally coming clean about what really caused him to lash out.

Gucci has been openly warring with his former Brick Squad artist Waka Flocka for months now, but two weeks ago he declared it open season on Twitter, aiming at numerous targets within the music industry. Shortly afterwards he claimed that his account was hacked, but on Sunday (September 22), the Atlanta rapper finally admitted to a syrup addiction.

“I just wanna man up right now & take this time to apologize to my family, friends, the industry & most of all my fans. I’m SORRY!,” he wrote. “I’ve been drinking lean for 10plus years & I must admit it has destroyed me. I wanna be the first rapper to admit. I’m addicted to lean & that sh– ain’t no joke. I can barely remember all the things I’ve done & said. However there’s no excuse.”

The admission was supplemented with apologies to those he had offended, with Birdman, Drake and Rick Ross being called out specifically. “I wanna personally apologize to birdman ross & drake. Dem my n—-s. I 100% regret my words & actions,” he tweeted.

And just to assure fans that he was serious about recovery, Gucci added that he would be committing to rehab.

Gucci’s addiction to prescription cough syrup hasn’t stopped him from releasing several mixtapes over the past year, and apparently he still has more in store. “Wrote sum new hard sh– can’t wait to get out dis hell hole so y’all can hear dis sh–,” he added.

Last week Gucci was checked into an Atlanta hospital after a confrontation with cops that led to his arrest and landed him with charges for disorderly conduct, marijuana possession and carrying a concealed weapon. Just days before that he was caught on video, almost getting into a fist fight with another shopper at Atlanta’s Lenox Square Mall.

Gucci isn’t the first rapper to openly struggle with syrup addiction. UGK’s Pimp C famously died from an overdose of the prescription promethazine/codeine concoction, while Lil Wayne has faced scrutiny for it, and Mac Miller recently admitted to his own issues.

“I kicked it. But it’s addictive; don’t mess around,” Mac Miller said to fans during a “RapFix Live” visit this year. “I don’t know how down and bad I was — but I guess I was.”

Fans on Twitter applauded Gucci Mane for coming clean, apologizing and vowing to get himself right with a stay in rehab.

“Glad to see @gucci1017 owning up to all the bullsh– ! the first step in change is to admit you need to change #Salute,” @AkaNeeko_ABG wrote.

Waka Flocka wasn’t included in Gucci’s list of personal apologies, and it doesn’t seem like the two will patch things up very soon. “Gucci lost his noodles, man. People think he’s gangsta and hard, he really needs medical attention, man,” Waka told New York’s Power 105 The Breakfast Club last week.
