Not long from now, in our very galaxy, a new “Star Wars” movie will arrive.
J.J. Abrams’ is scheduled to land on December 18, 2015, and while we continue to wait for an official cast announcement, it’s widely believed that many of the original trilogy’s players, including Harrison Ford, will reprise their roles.
If Ford returns as Han Solo, it’ll be something of a miracle. The actor has been famously rough around the edges when it comes to “Star Wars,” and talking about his time playing the Millennium Falcon pilot and smuggler. Ford did little to change that perception during a Reddit appearance over the weekend, promoting his new Showtime documentary series, “Years of Living Dangerously.”
For example, Ford was asked to weigh in on one of the hottest topics of debate among “Star Wars” fans: Who shot first in that famous “Episode IV” cantina scene, Han Solo or Greedo?
“I don’t know,” he answered, “and I don’t care.”
Insert the sounds of Figrin D’an’s sad Kloo horn here:
Ford’s cold “Star Wars” responses didn’t end there. When asked if he was still mad at Lando, Han’s old buddy from Cloud City, Ford replied with: “Lando who?” He also gave a matter-of-fact answer about how he became involved with the “Star Wars” films to begin with:
“I was approached with the offer of a job, which at that point, was all I wanted to hear. I had helped George Lucas audition other actors for the principle parts, and with no expectation or indication that I might be considered for the part of Han, I was quite surprised when I was offered the part.”
“My principle job at the time was carpentry, I had been under contract as an actor at Columbia and Universal. I had a house at the time I wanted to remodel, a bit of the wreck of a house. I’d invest money in tools but wouldn’t have money for materials, so I realized this was another way of putting food on the table. And allowing me to pick and choose from the acting jobs that were being offered at the time.”
Still, while Ford was reluctant to engage in some of the Reddit AMA’s fan-favorite questions, he made it clear that he appreciates all of the fans of his movies, “Star Wars” included.
“Someone said thank you for being a part of so many childhood films: Well, thank you,” he wrote, replying to no one in particular. “I really appreciate that. It’s a privilege to be able to be involved with people as talented as the people I’ve had the luck to work with, and it’s just been a great experience for me, and I’m glad that so many of the films I’ve had the luck to do were films that could be enjoyed by families together.”
Eventually, Ford even seemed to soften a bit toward the “Star Wars” fans. When one user offered up a simple “We love you,” Ford replied with the only appropriate response:
“I know.”
Do you think Ford will appear in the next “Star Wars” films?
