Iggy Azalea Takes Us Behind Her ‘Clueless’-Themed Woodies Performance

Chances are, if you’ve seen “Clueless,” you wanted to be like Cher, the Beverly Hills high-school student who used a computer program to choose daily outfits from her high-end wardrobe. Iggy Azalea sure did.

That’s why The New Classic MC channeled the Amy Heckerling-helmed classic not only in the video for Charli XCX-assisted single, “Fancy,” but also during her performance at Thursday night’s mtvU Woodie Awards, where she was up for Best Video Woodie for the ’90s-loving clip.

“I’ve just always wanted to re-create ‘Clueless,’ ” Iggy told MTV News before performance in Austin, Texas. “I think all girls do, even a little bit, even if you deny it, you want to. I’ve just been looking for an excuse and ‘Fancy’ seems like an excuse. ‘Fancy’ to me seemed like the kind of song that Cher would listen to.”

And when she brought that theme onstage Thursday night, it was complete with a Cher-approved wardrobe.

“I really want to perform my song with Charli tonight,” she added excitedly. “That’s what I’m super looking forward to because we have costumes! And I love costumes.”

If you weren’t lucky enough to catch her performance live at SXSW, tune into Sunday night’s “2014 mtvU Woodie Awards Special” at 8 p.m. ET/PT to see her perform alongside Charli XCX. You’ll also see performances from surprise guest Lil Wayne, the 1975, Bleachers, Childish Gambino and more.
