Is Jessica Chastain Our Next Marilyn Monroe?

It looks like we’ve got another Marilyn on our hands: The Wrap reports that double Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain is nearing a deal to play Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming “Blonde.”

It’s not necessarily a biopic, though its source material does draw on biographical and historical research for information. The script, adapted from Joyce Carole Oates’ lengthy novel, also called “Blonde,” follows Norma Jean Baker on her journey from young girl to still-young Hollywood star, until her tragic demise.

Andrew Dominik, who directed and wrote “Killing Them Softly” and “The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford,” is both director and screenwriter on the project. Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, is producing the film alongside Worldview Entertainment.

Of course, this is hardly the first time Marilyn Monroe will have been portrayed on screen by someone other than Marilyn herself. IMDb currently lists 166 instances of a Marilyn/Norma Jean character being portrayed on film, recently by Lindsay Lohan (in “inAPProporiate Comedy”) and Michelle Williams (in “My Week With Marilyn”).

Production on the flick is expected to begin in August.
