Is Lil Wayne retiring, or not? It’s hard to tell at this point. Earlier this month the YMCMB rapper was pretty emphatic in stating that he had zeroplans to record another solo album, and now his April Fool’s tweet has us all mixed up again.
Weezy was up bright and early on Tuesday morning (April 1) to write a message that left some fans confused. “I’m retiring…April f–kin foolz!” he tweeted.
Usually the point of April Fools’ is to trick someone (or some people) into believing something is true, only to later announce that it was all a joke. So if Wayne really meant that tweet, then he’s just been having some fun with us.
When asked what it would take for him to record another album, just a few weeks ago, he was very clear. “25 to 35 million would get me to do another solo album after this,” he told MTV News, after giving it some thought.
And just to prove he was being serious, he added, “I didn’t smile when I said it.”
But maybe that was all just part of the fun. “I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes and it’s definitely the final Carter album,” Weezy noted. “Whenever I have to pitch in for a Young Money album, a Like Father, Like Son album and something like that and maybe something out the blue.”
Okay, so with tweets and his recent interview considered, it sounds like Wayne isn’t planning to officially retire. There might not be any more solo albums coming our way, but he’ll still pop up on features and collaboration albums.
