It’s OK, One Direction. We forgive you for naming “Best Song Ever” a little bit falsely. After all, we don’t really believe you were trying to challenge other songs with the superlative title. You just wanted to sing about dancing all night long to that awesome song — whose lyrics you no longer remember.
But since you put it out there, guys, MTV News took it upon ourselves to find out what really is the best song off your new album, Midnight Memories. After two days of polling, here’s what we came up with. Announcing, “You and I,” the album’s Best Song Ever.
According to our calculations, “You and I” got 16.99 percent of your votes to make it to first place. Believe it or not, that was the majority. And from the small percentages spread out over the 14 tracks, we can tell that Directioners are loving all the Midnight Memories offerings.
“Story of My Life,” the band’s current single, came in second place with 15.7 percent, while “Happily” came in third with 11.66 percent. More than 2,700 people voted.

Just to set the record straight, “Best Song Ever” finished in a three-way tie with “Diana” and “Don’t Forget Where You Belong” for seventh place. And that’s the truth!
The guys are currently celebrating the release of their third album. They performed live on “Good Morning America” Tuesday and are set to appear on “Saturday Night Live” on December 7. At the American Music Awards on Sunday, they took home two awards — one for Favorite Band, Duo or Group – Pop/Rock and one for Favorite Album – Pop/Rock.
