It’s Official: Zack Snyder Is Directing ‘Justice League’

Well, it’s about frakkin’ time.

Zack Snyder, director of last year’s breakneck Superman film “Man of Steel,” has been officially named as the director of DC Comics’ answer to Marvel’s “Avengers” squad: “Justice League.” The Wall Street Journal reports that Warner Bros. and Snyder will follow the upcoming untitled “Man of Steel” sequel, rumored to be called “Batman Vs. Superman,” with the first-ever “Justice League” film.

“It will be a further expansion of this universe,” said Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman. “‘Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’”

News of “Justice League” comes as no surprise, given what we already know about the “Man of Steel” sequel. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Clark Kent, the last living Kryptonian on Earth. He’s joined by Ben Affleck as the new Batman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor.

Those aren’t the only familiar faces in the “Man of Steel” sequel mix, either. Last December, “Fast and Furious” actress Gal Gadot won the part of Wonder Woman, marking the iconic character’s first ever live-action movie appearance. Recently, relative newcomer Ray Fisher joined the film as the half-man, half-machine superhero known as Cyborg, though it’s expected his role will be small.

It seems like there’s more casting to do, as well, now that “Justice League” is officially on the docket. Are Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Flash next on the list? It looks like we’ll know soon enough.

Latino Review even reports that the “Man of Steel” sequel and “Justice League” will shoot back-to-back, with “Justice League” rumored for a May 2017 release date. That rumor is so far unconfirmed.

But “Justice League” is confirmed, and that’s very exciting for DC Comics fans who have waited and waited and waited some more for their favorite characters to get in on the big-screen comic book action that Marvel has dominated thus far. Stay tuned as more develops.

Are you excited that the “Justice League” movie is officially announced?
