It’s finally time for the movie to get some action. The film started shooting over the weekend after being delayed by a major casting shake-up earlier this fall when Charlie Hunnam dropped out as the film’s lead and was replaced by Jamie Dornan.
The Sam Taylor-Wood-directed adaptation of E L James’ bestselling novel began filming on December 1, as confirmed by James on Instagram. She shared with her fans a photo of the clapboard. Screenwriter, Kelly Marcel, also confirmed that the film began shooting on Sunday by tweeting, “Thinking of team 50 today– @E_L_James @DanaBrunetti @MichaelDe_Luca @jebbrody. Good luck guys.”
While neither of the ladies shared any photos of Dornan or his leading lady, Dakota Johnson, the onscreen lovers were photographed on set at the Rainier Provisions Cafe in Vancouver, according to E! News. In a set of photos posted on the Daily Mail‘s website, Dornan’s Christian Grey was pictured on a coffee date with Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele.
Dornan was photographed in a suit while Johnson was spotted looking more casual in a green military-style jacket.
Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Victor Rasuk and Jennifer Ehle join Dornan and Johnson in the steamy flick. Originally slated to hit theaters August 1, 2014, the film will now open February 13, 2015.
While both Johnson and Dornan were photographed on set fully clothed, the film will require them to shoot some risque, kinky sex scenes. “Obviously, I want to look good naked,” Dakota shared with Entertainment Weekly last month. “I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of f—ing feels awesome.”
“I’m a fairly worldly guy,” Dornan, a former underwear model, added about the film’s sexual-charged storyline. “I grew up in a very liberal place. I’m not saying we had a playroom, but I’m not shocked by [the sex in the book]. It’s essential to tell the story. I can’t believe films that don’t invoke the sexual side of it. So it works for me.”
