Jennifer Lawrence And ‘Real Housewives’: Their Surprising Connection

Inspiration can come from surprising places. Here’s one such example: Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence admitted that her performance in — one that is garnering early awards buzzmay have taken notes from a certain reality TV franchise.

Speaking with MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz, Lawrence conceded that she loved the “Real Housewives” reality franchises and conceded that the Jersey accent she adopted for “American Hustle,” in which she plays a boozy housewife Rosalyn to Christian Bale’s con man Irving, may have taken a page from the wine-swilling reality divas on the show’s Garden State edition. She called New Jersey “where I belong,” then told Horowitz that while she was not directly impersonating the reality stars, she maybe was, just a little bit.

“I can’t tell where it came from because I just kind of started speaking in it, and I’ve been watching a lot of reality TV shows and those reality TV shows have a lot of New Jersey women, so I can’t say that it’s not from them,” she said of her character’s accent. “I wish I could, I really wish I could.”

Lawrence’s character participates in plenty of reality TV-worthy shenanigans, including but not limited to setting the “science oven” (read and give thanks for the ’70s: microwave) on fire.

starring Amy Adams, Bale, Bradley Cooper and Lawrence, hits theaters Dec. 20.
