Jennifer Lopez On The Year Of The Booty: ‘It’s About Time’

With reporting by James Lacsina

It’s pretty safe to say that 2014 will be remembered as the year of the booty.

Yes, it was all about the butts this year, from Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” to Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” and of course Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea’s appropriately titled track, “Booty.”

Now, one can argue that no one works the booty quite like J.Lo, just ask ex-boyfriend Diddy. Jennifer brought the sexiness, along with hot oil, butt slaps and signature dance moves, to her “Booty” video, which celebrated the almighty derrière, and she is more than excited that people are loving beautiful backsides.

“It’s about time. It’s the year of the booty, for Christ’s sake, it’s been so long,” Jennifer told MTV News. “Before we were just considered like heavy, like we weren’t ‘in shape’ or whatever if you had a big butt or something. So now it’s kind of nice that people are embracing womanly curves in that way.”

Jennifer has never been one to shy away from showing off her famous assets, but there was a time when a lot of people considered her “different” from other women.

“Years ago when I came out to LA to act, and sing and dance and be on ‘In Living Color’ and all that stuff, I was considered heavy,” she revealed. “My thighs were too big, my butt was too big, I had a small waist, I wasn’t like everybody else and I knew that, but at the end of the day, this is who I am and this is different from what you’re used to, but it’s beautiful too.”

The pop diva says she is in no way “ashamed” of her shape, in fact, she’s proud that she’s been able to help people accept their own bodies.

“In some way it translated to people and people come up to me and have come up to me over the years so many times and told me, ‘Thank you, I have a J.Lo booty,’” she said. “It just it may seem silly, but it does make people feel better about who they are and knowing that not one thing is beauty. All different types of things are beautiful.”
