JK Rowling Handles Homophobic Tweet With Unexpectedly Brilliant Response

In her five years on Twitter, J.K. Rowling has only tweeted 132 times. It’s safe to say a reply from the beloved “Harry Potter” author is more rare than Priori Incantatem, but she was all action when it came to shutting down a recent homophobic comment in her feed.

Yesterday, a user at the now now-defunct Twitter account @halfelven55ff replied to this May 2 tweet…

…by writing to the author, “once u revealed Dumbledore was homosexual I stopped being a fan. Nice how u blindsided us with that one. Enjoy your billion $”

Rowling’s reply?

She’s referring to a wealthy Scottish businessman who spent one million pounds to organize a “Keep the Clause campaign” back in 2000, which worked to oppose the Scottish government’s plans to repeal a section of the local government act that prevented local authorities from “promoting homosexuality.”

We’ve got to give her props for not sinking to this guy’s level or getting angry, but instead, kindly pointed out that he probably shouldn’t be following her. But it looks like a lot of her followers are showing support for her response.

Basically, Rowling again proved herself a class act capable of wizarding her words wisely – she bedazzling hexed an insult within a helpful suggestion. One homophobic horcrux down, countless more to go – we’ve got your back, J.K.!
