He tried. He really, really tried.
But when John Travolta took the stage at the Academy Awards to introduce Idina Menzel for her performance of the Oscar-winning “Frozen” hit, “Let It Go,” the “Hairspray” actor just couldn’t seem to get her name right.
In fact, what came out — “Adele Dazeem” — wasn’t even close to the correct pronunciation. And while in the days since Sunday’s show we’ve all been laughing about it and using the Travolta-fying our own names, John has been pretty torn up about the whole thing.
“I’ve been beating myself up all day,” Travolta said in a statement to E! News on Tuesday (March 4), in his first public response to the slip-up. “Then I thought…What would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy ‘Frozen’ took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
We see what you did there.
Menzel has yet to comment on the name-slaughter, but didn’t seem the least bit fazed when she performed on Monday Night’s “The Tonight Show.”
