There are certain actresses everyone just seems to love, as a basic human instinct. Hate on Meryl Streep? What kind of monster are you? The same goes for Julia Roberts, whose starring role in the 2001 romantic comedy “America’s Sweethearts” may as well have been a declaration of title.
And now, Jennifer Lawrence seems to have joined the club. Who knew that it would take longer to gain entree to the VIP level of the America’s Sweethearts club than it would to win an Oscar?
MTV News correspondent Josh Horowitz caught up with O.G. Sweetheart Roberts recently at the press day for her new film, to see just how she felt about Lawrence.
“How many are there of us?” Roberts wondered aloud when Horowitz asked about the clique. She also had questions about Lawrence.
“She shoots flaming arrows. Is this a new cupid tactic?” Roberts said. “My card is expired and I didn’t get a new one. I think she’s fabulous, but she seems cooler than me.”
It’s safe to say that nobody will be calling Roberts’ “August: Osage County” character a sweetheart. She plays Barbara Weston, a grown woman and eldest daughter of Violet Weston (Streep), who returns home when she receives news that her father (Sam Shepard) has gone missing. As the poster for the movie, which depicts the entire extended Weston family in a knock-down drag-out fight, shows, the reunion is anything but peaceful.
