“When your sins weigh heavily upon you, come to Me,” begins the text of the photo he shared, which is lifted from Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. “Confess your wrong doing, which I know all about before you say a word. Stay in the Light of My Presence, receiving forgiveness, cleansing, and healing. Remember that I have clothed you in My Righteousness, so nothing can separate you from Me. Whenever you stumble or fall, I am there to help you up.”

The photo goes on to quote three passages from the New Testament, as well.

The pop star didn’t write a comment with the photo, which addressed controversy ignited by a video released on Wednesday (June 4). In it, a 14-year-old Bieber sings a version of his hit, “One Less Lonely Girl,” that finds him spewing racially insensitive lyrics: “One less lonely n—-r/ One less lonely n—-r … there’s gonna be one less lonely n—-r.” He also added a joke about the Ku Klux Klan.

Less than 10 minutes before Bieber’s post, his manager, Scooter Braun, uploaded a text-driven photo.

“Some mistakes have no excuses,” it reads. “They are just wrong. But how a man reacts to those mistakes… How he owns it and learns from it… That defines him more than the mistake itself.”
