Justin Timberlake just got pulses pounding (and censors howling) with his , but he’s already on to the next one: launching a brand-new single called “Take Back The Night” and a pre-order for the second installment of The 20/20 Experience.
Earlier in the week, JT teased that “Take Back” would be coming soon, and he proved to be a man of his word … because on Friday, he unveiled the full track, a sumptuous slice of Off The Wall-indebted disco that seems custom-made for roller rinks everywhere (or at least the five that are still open for business in 2013).
Over stirring strings and percolating percussion, JT attempts to woo a would-be lover — “Girl, this was your city/You did it all and more/Broke every law except for one, babe: attraction,” he coos. “Are you ready?” He gets a little more direct in the chorus, begging the object of his affections to join him on the dance floor (“Your love’s a weapon/Give your body some direction/that’s my aim/And we can take back the night.”) And, like the majority of songs on the first 20/20 Experience, this one’s a long-player too, stretching to nearly six minutes, and featuring plenty of staccato-ed guitars and blasts of horns on the extended outro, each of which is announced by Timberlake himself: “And the horns say!”
“Take Back The Night” is currently playing on Timberlake’s official site (workplace productivity always dips on Friday anyway), and while you’re there, you can also pre-order The 20/20 Experience, Part 2 of 2. Any pre-orders also come with an automatic download of “Night.”
Timberlake’s second 20/20 album is due on September 30, and a month later, he’ll launch off a North American tour in support of both discs. The trek kicks off on October 31 in Montreal and runs until February. Next week, JT will head out with Jay-Z on the tour, which hits iconic stadiums like Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park.
