Justin Timberlake To Put His Spin On Neil Bogart In ‘Spinning Gold’

It looks like Justin Timberlake is trading in his suit and tie for bellbottoms and platform shoes.

Whether you think he’s a singer who acts or an actor who sings, the multi-talented performer will tap into his experiences in both fields soon: Timberlake is set to star in “Spinning Gold,” a biopic of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake is the first actor to join the cast of the film, which is being produced by Timberlake, Matt Damon, Laurence Mark and Timothy Scott Bogart, Neil’s son. Bogart also wrote the script, which is scheduled to be shopped around at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.

Casablanca Records was the premier disco label in the 1970s, serving as home to such acts as Donna Summer, the Village People, Curtis Mayfield and Giorgio Moroder. Timberlake and company will chronicle the elder Bogart’s emergence from a poor Brooklyn upbringing to the successful founding of Casablanca and, later, New Wave Records.

Damon indicated that he has a personal stake in getting the story told since he started his career working with Bogart at Casablanca and Filmworks. “With some of the music industry’s luminary artists lining up to join Justin in telling Neil’s incredible life story, the film is going to be a wild, music extravaganza that will light up the screen,” he said.

The Reporter also indicated that songs from many of Casablanca’s top artists would be re-imagined by current pop stars, though there was no indication whether Timberlake would be contributing to the soundtrack. But who do you think should do a remake of songs like “I Feel Love”?
