Kanye West And Japan Influence Travis Scott’s Owl Pharaoh

Travi$ Scott originally had a plan for his upcoming album that didn’t involve Kanye West nor T.I. Lucky for the Houston, Texas, newcomer, however, he knows how to call an audible.

“I’ve been working on it for so f—in’ long, man. The sh– was supposed to drop last year before people even knew me. It just happened that people started slowly figuring out about me as I was trying to put it out. That’s why I kinda been pushing it back super crazy,” Scott told MTV News of his upcoming Owl Pharaoh album, which he said will drop for free on May 21.

These days, Travi$ is drawing musical influence from everywhere, and when you add his own innate sensibilities into the mix, it makes for some pretty interesting music. His latest single, “Upper Echelon,” features both T.I. and 2 Chainz, as well as Scott rapping over a dark and spacey trap-inspired track. He promises that Owl Pharaoh will be a unique sonic ride, and the Grand Hustle/G.O.O.D. Music signee credits T.I., Kanye West and Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon with helping to shape the album.

Travi$ Scott Says Kanye Is ‘Already In The Year 3000’ On His New Music.

“I met so many different people. Meeting Justin Vernon changed up my sh–. Meeting Kanye changed up, meeting T.I., meeting T.I.’s friends, going through Atlanta, going through North Carolina, going through Paris, London, Japan,” Scott said, rattling off names and places. “All that f—ed my whole brain up, so I had to re-track and restart.

“It’s real fresh and delicate. I got some of my favorite artists, worked with some of my favorite producers on the sh–,” he gushed.
