Kanye West is ready to take his show on the road. On Friday (September 6) ‘Ye created quite the stir when he tweeted a promotion pic for his upcoming Yeezus Tour.
It’s his first solo run since 2008’s Glow in the Dark Tour. (On his last tour Yeezy shared the bill with Jay Z to promote their 2011 album Watch the Throne. ) The seven-week, 23-city North American run will also feature Kendrick Lamar. It all starts on October 19 at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington and end on December 7 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Tickets will go on sale September 13.
West made waves earlier this year when he dropped his now gold-selling Yeezus album. The 10-track LP disregarded tradition as Kanye embarked on a mission with new sounds and new rules, even before Jay Z made it a hashtag. There was no lead-up single, and West premiered the clip for “New Slaves” on the sides of buildings in various cities across the country.
There was no album art, and the physical CD simply came in a clear jewel casing; then of course there were the sonic components. Yeezus, with all of its buzzing bass and electro bleeps and blips made it stand out from every album in Kanye’s catalog — or for that matter, any hip-hop album ever recorded. The innovation was intriguing to Kendrick, who dropped his critically acclaimed debut good kid, m.A.A.d city late last year.
“It was hard for me to grasp it on the first take,” K-Dot told MTV News in June, just a few days after Yeezus was released. “I got it, but as I kept listening throughout the week, I understood where he was going and that was him stepping out of the box again and doing what he felt.
“And as an artist, we all need to take heat into that and salute that because, at the end of the day, it’s so much we can do following radio, following the politics in the business so for somebody to come back again and do what they want, it helps out new cats like myself, Cole, Drake, whoever, so salute.” Yeezus Tour Dates: » 10/19 – Seattle, WA @ KeyArena * #
