Katy Perry is kicking off the weekend right, with two new samples of “Walking On Air” and “Dark Horse,” tracks off of her upcoming record Prism.
Prism isn’t dropping until October 22, but Perry — along with MTV and Pepsi — has been giving fans sneak peeks all week long, allowing Katy Cats to choose which track off the of upcoming disc she will reveal one month early — on September 17.
After unlocking song titles and lyrics for “Walking On Hair” and “Dark Horse,” Saturday (August 24), snippets of the two jams hit the Web.
“Dark Horse” starts off dreamy with Perry singing “So you wanna play with Magic. Boy, you should know whatcha fallin’ for.” The jam then builds in intensity — punctuated by very Lumineers-esque “Heys!” — until it hit the drop, followed by a robot voice saying, “There’s no going back.” Perhaps Perry aims to get dubby on this track?
“Walking on Air” is a decidedly more upbeat song — a dance floor love jam that’s most likely about her on-again, off-again beau, John Mayer. “Just when I think I can’t take anymore, we go deeper and harder than ever before,” Perry sings. “Walking” isn’t all she’s doing, it seems.
Whistles sufficiently wetted with these song samples, Katy Cats can keep voting for which track they’d like to hear in its entirely. That song will be announced before Perry takes the stage at Barclays on Sunday.
Katy Perry will be closing out the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with the first-ever performance of her new single, “Roar.” The action starts at 9 p.m. ET.
