The details for Katy Perry‘s Prism have been teased for some time now, but the most tantalizing information rolled through the sunny streets of L.A. on Monday, when she announced the title and release date on the side of an eye-popping gold truck.
With fans counting down the days until October 22, MTV News is rounding up what we know about the release… so far.
She Has A Lot To Address
Perry’s 2010 Teenage Dream not only spawned hits like “California Gurls” and “T.G.I.F. (Last Friday Night)” but a re-release billed as “The Complete Confection.” In the years since, Perry has divorced Russell Brand, changed her hair color numerous times and found love again with John Mayer.
So, perhaps that will all help shape her latest musical confection? She teased, “It’s gonna be three years later, how about that? Pick up where we left off.”
It May Be Loud
With the album title and release date confirmed, fans are anxiously awaiting to hear what the lead single will sound like. And it may be a loud one. According to a new report from Idolator, that lead single might be called “Roar,” but Perry and her camp have yet to confirm the rumored title.
We May See A Double Rainbow
Back in the spring, in line with the then-unknown album title, she shared that she and Bonnie McKee had penned a track called “Double Rainbow” that may find its way on there. In an interview with Vogue, where she addressed her pre-album jitters, she teased that another track, “Bad Photographs,” had also been recorded for the album.
She’s Channeling Madonna
Like so many pop stars of her generation, her Madgesty is playing a role in the way Perry is looking at her own artistic growth. “She kept everybody interested because you never knew what she was going to do next, but whatever she delivered was a solid product,” she said in June 2012 of Madonna’s influence.
She’s Kicking It Old School
While the album may show evolution for Perry, that doesn’t mean she can’t kick it old school. Back in April she tweeted that she may turn back time for the album’s sound. “You know the 90’s are back when you’re voluntarily putting record scratches in your songs a la Portishead’s Dummy,” she wrote.
John Mayer Won’t Be On It
And while she banked time with a number of collaborators, including Max Martin, Sia, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells, she says that her current beau, John Mayer, hasn’t clocked studio time with his California girl.
Though, she has worked with her “soulmate” Bonnie McKee, who opened up to MTV News a bit about the and “new approach” they’ve applied to the project.
