Kendrick Lamar and Mac Miller have been in the studio a lot lately, so what do they have cooking?
“Nothing,” K-Dot told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway when he tried to get the good kid to open up about new collaborations after his performance at the Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on May 18.
“Mac Miller’s been in the studio with us, probably for the last two weeks,” he confirmed of Mac’s close ties to Kendrick’s TDE and Black Hippy camp.
Miller is readying the release of his sophomore album, Watching Movies with the Sound Off, but during the most recent studio sessions with Kendrick and the crew Mac isn’t supplying verses, hooks or even beats. “Schoolboy Q working on his album and we just like to have good people around and joke and clown, Mac Miller,” Lamar said. “That’s Mac Miller’s role in the studio… just to be the homey.”
We can only imagine the jokes. When Q last came up to in March he playfully joked on a number of rappers, including his buddy Mac. After show hosts Sway Calloway and Nadeska Alexis showed Schoolboy a pic of Miller, he automatically responded: “The ugliest white man ever, Mac Miller.”
All jokes aside, there are some upcoming TDE/Mac Miller collaborations in the works though. Both Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul will appear on Mac’s Watching Movies, which drops on June 18. Ab lends his voice to “Matches,” while Q contributes to a track titled “Gees.”
