Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy Nominations Make Miguel, The Game ‘So Proud’

When you score seven Grammy nominations your first time out people tend to notice. Especially your peers.

After Compton MC Kendrick Lamar, snagged seven bids for his major label debut, Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City, at Friday night’s Grammy nominations special
, it was clear that this year could be a huge one for hip-hop
.

In particular, it could be a major one for the 26-year-old “Swimming Pools (Drank),” MC, who got some love from his peers after landing seven noms.

“Kendrick is not following in anyone’s footsteps. He’s on his own path and he’s killing it, as you can see. I think I just appreciate how he told his story,” Miguel told MTV News after the nominations were announced.

“He really let people get to know him through his music and that’s why he’s winning.” Of course K-Dot is an amazing MC and his lyrical game is top notch, but for Miguel it’s also the emotion behind those verses that really put Lamar over the top.

“There’s an authenticity and that’s what I appreciate most from him,” Miguel said. “It’s what he told with his craft.”

Compton’s own Game was psyched for his hometown kid made good also. “Man I’m so proud of that dude,” Game said. “That’s my little homie. It’s just good to see him getting his just do. He deserves everything he’s getting. Congrats to Kendrick for everything, it’s beautiful. And welcome to the Million Dollar Club.”
