Kree Harrison Hoping For A Studio ‘Go ‘Round’ With Pal Kacey Musgraves

Kree Harrison would love a little help from her friends on her debut album.

The country singer and just might ring up her bestie, up-and-coming Nashville superstar Kacey Musgraves, to help shape her post-“Idol” record.

Harrison and Musgraves worked together on the latter’s breakthrough album, Same Trailer Different Park. Harrison sang backup vocals on the release and is hoping to enlist Musgraves’ songwriting prowess for her own album.

“She’s one of my best friends and I’m so proud of her, and vice versa,” she told MTV News of the “Merry Go ‘Round” singer. “So I’m sure we’ll write for it. … She’s the epitome of class and so good for country to get that out there right now.”

Harrison has a handful of country music’s finest she could hit the studio with when the time comes. Fellow “Idol” alum Kellie Pickler is a friend of hers, and Harrison will take the stage with the “Dancing With the Stars” winner and “Idol” judge Keith Urban at the Grand Ole Opry on June 4. Harrison said Urban has helped her become more comfortable with wearing her “heart on her sleeve” during her time on the show.

Non-country lovers should take note, though: Harrison says that just because she’s got a strong country pedigree doesn’t mean she’s intent on only making music in that genre. And with past “Idol” success stories like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson making music embraced by all audiences, it seems Harrison is ready to follow in their crossover footsteps.

“Of course, I want to collaborate with lots of people for different reasons. More than anything, I want to make a really good country record for my fans. And I want them to be proud of it,” the singer said. “I want it to be worldly. I don’t want it to just be in the box of anything. But … I’m a country singer, so I hope a lot of people can relate to my lyrics either way, whether they like country or not.”
