“Silicon Valley” was renewed after only a few of its first season’s episodes broadcast, all of which were met with enormously positive reviews. As we approach the June 1 season finale, with the guys lining up for a final presentation at TechCrunch, it only makes sense to wonder what lies ahead for the entrepreneurs and programmers in season two.
Luckily, Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Danesh and has become one of the show’s breakout stars, was able to wring some info out of show creator Mike Judge.
“I was with Mike… we were hanging out late, and I asked him, ‘Hey, what plans do you guys have?’” Nanjiani told MTV News. “Very preliminary ideas they have for it, he told me three or four of them. And it’s really, really exciting.”
The show has already hit some major sitcom plotlines in its early episodes, even doing a road trip episode.
“Most sitcoms don’t do that till Season Four or Five, and we got to sort of change everything up,” Nanjiani said. “That’s how confident these guys were.”
But after a road trip episode, and even (SPOILER ALERT) a character who was kidnapped by a self-driving car, where can the show go next season?
“Season Two I think, from what I’ve heard, might continue that, again put us out of our comfort zone,” Nanjiani explained. “There’s the house, and that’s where we’re most comfortable … and then the last two episodes we go to TechCrunch, and suddenly the roof is gone and it’s all very scary.
“So I think the plan is to continue putting us in situations where we aren’t comfortable, and it’s going to be really interesting. [Judge] told me a couple of ideas and it seems like things are gonna get pretty intense.”
Considering the incredible first season, having an even more intense second season sounds like a little byte of comedy heaven.
The season finale of “Silicon Valley” airs tonight (June 1) at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
