More than two weeks after the tragic death of Cory Monteith, his girlfriend and “Glee” co-star Lea Michele has broken her silence, sharing a message of thanks to all of her fans on Twitter.
“Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support,” Michele tweeted on Monday (July 29). “Cory will forever be in my heart.”
Along with the tweet, Michele, who began dating Monteith in early 2012, shared a personal photo of her and Monteith hugging on a beach.
This is the first time Michele has spoken publicly on Monteith, who died from a combination of heroin and alcohol on July 13. However, her representatives have released statements on her behalf expressing that she was “deeply grateful” for the love and support she has received and that she has been spending the past several weeks grieving alongside Monteith’s family and friends.
“I’ve never met any 26-year-old person stronger than Lea,” Murphy told E! News, adding that she has handled Monteith’s passing and the subsequent fallout with “humility and grace.” Murphy explained that it was Michele’s decision to get back to work on the show, which begins filming the fifth season in early August and will pay homage to Monteith during the season’s third episode before going on an extended leave.
The cast of “Glee” has continued to show its outpouring of love for the late star, with co-star Mike O’Malley most recently calling him a “very warm guy.”
Just last week the cast mourned the loss of their friend together during a private memorial service filled with music at the 20th Century Fox lot.
