Lea Michele Previews ‘Cannonball’ Single: Hear It Now

Get glee-ful! Lea Michele is giving fans a preview of her debut single, “Cannonball,” before it officially hits the streets on Tuesday.

With a clappy beat and piano-driven melody, the first single off her debut album, Louder is a pure pop jam with Michele reaffirming her newfound inner strength. Hitmaker Sia (Katy Perry, Rihanna, Britney Spears) reportedly helped write the track. “Break down/ Break down/ Break down/ I was scared to death, I was losing my mind,” she sings on the opening lines of the single. “But now/ I think I found the light at the end of the tunnel.”

By the time the chorus kicks in, Michele is at full strength. “And now I will start living/ Today, today, today/ I close the door/ I got this new beginning/ And I will fly/ I’ll fly like a cannonball,” she belts out. She’s slated to perform the song on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, December 12. She shot a video for the track last month, but hasn’t confirmed a release date for it yet.

The teaser’s premiere, on her website, comes just one day after she released the track list for her album. “Cannonball” is the lead song on the album, which also includes tracks, “On My Way,” “Burn with You,” “Battlefield,” “You’re Mine,” “Thousand Needles,” “Louder,” “Cue the Rain,” “Don’t Let Go,” “Empty Handed” and “If You Say So.”

Michele previously opened up about the song which was inspired by her relationship with fellow “Glee” star Cory Monteith, who died back in July.

“The album was done, and the label said, ‘Do you want to add anything?’ I was like, ‘I might regret it if I don’t,’ ” she told Elle last month. “It makes me so happy, this song. It makes me think so much of Cory. It was ours. When I think of him, I play this.”
