Leonardo DiCaprio Takes On Gorilla Poachers In New Netflix Documentary

Leonardo DiCaprio is going gorillas for his next film—literally.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix announced yet another industry shaking move with its plans to team up with “The Wolf Of Wall Street” actor for “Virunga,” a documentary about park rangers and the gorillas they safeguard.

DiCaprio will executive produce the film under his production company Appian Way.

“Films like Virunga are powerful stories that are a window into the incredible cultural and natural diversity of our world, the forces that are threatening to destroy it, and the people who are fighting to protect it,” DiCaprio said. “Partnering with Netflix on this film is an exciting opportunity to inform and inspire individuals to engage on this topic.”

Orlando von Einsiedel has been tapped to direct the film, which will explore the conflict between park rangers and the poachers who threaten the endangered primates in Virunga National Park in the Congo.

Coupled with its four-picture deal with Adam Sandler, this venture solidifies Netflix’s move into the all-new original feature film business.

“Virunga” will air on Netflix and hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles on the same day: November 7.
