Lil Snupe Dead At 18: New Shooting Details Emerge

As hip-hop continues to mourn the loss of Meek Mill protégé Lil Snupe, details of his death continue to emerge.

According to a statement released to MTV News by Louisiana’s Winnfield City Police Department on Thursday (June 20), officers responded to calls of a shooting at the Maplewood Apartments at 1901 South Jones Street at approximately 4:07 a.m. Thursday morning. On arrival, they found Lil Snupe (born Addarren Ross) had been mortally wounded with two shots to the torso area.

Winn Parish Coroner Investigators pronounced the 18-year old rapper dead at the scene after paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive him. Not much else is known and it remains unclear whether the address at which he was found was Snupe’s residence or not. The WPD did reveal, however, that they “are currently in search of a person of interest, who is unnamed at this time.”

“A motive has not been established at this time,” the police department told us in a statement, adding that an investigation is open and under way.

Lil Snupe and Meek first met at a Louisiana tour stop at Grambling State University late last year. The then-17-year-old passed his demo along to the Maybach Music MC, and he made quite an impression because he was signed to the MMG rapper’s imprint, Dream Chasers, almost immediately.

“He was in a van, they was finna pull off. And I went and knocked on the van, on the window. They let the window down, grabbed the mixtape and it was like 10 minutes later, 20 minutes later they called me,” Snupe recalled to MTV News when we caught up with him in February during NBA All-Star Weekend.

If output were the sole measurement of success, rap rookie Snupe would register as only having made a blip on the sonic radar as a lyricist. But judging by the attention the R.N.I.C. MC was earning from some of rap’s biggest names, he was already making his impact felt. Hitmaker DJ Khaled said Snupe had “next” and, of course, his Dreams and Nightmares boss had major plans for the budding rapper.

“R.I.P 2 my lil f—ing ni–a #lilsnupe I tried everything in my power 2 get that kid out of the streets!” Meek wrote in a revealing post before he apparently deleted the tweet. The Philly MC went on to add another “RIP” with a link to an Instagram of the pair smiling.

Meek’s MMG boss Rick Ross, Trae Tha Truth, Killer Mike, Bun B and Casey Veggies were just a few of the hip-hop stars and fans weighing in on Twitter, expressing deep sadness and shock over the Louisiana spitter’s untimely demise.

“R.I.P @LilSnupe tears coming dn my eyes snupe is a amazing friend artist I cnt believe ths! sending my [prayers] 2 his family & his DCR family!” tweeted DJ Khaled, who guest starred on Snupe’s “Take Over.”
