When it comes to mining rap’s underground for new talent, Lil Wayne‘s track record is golden. Running a label that boasts artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga hasn’t curbed Weezy’s expansion, not in the least bit.
On March 11 Wayne dropped Young Money’s Rise of an Empire, a label compilation that features contributions from YM veterans as well as new label artists like Chanel West Coast, PJ Morton and Christina Milian. Weezy is supportive of all of his artists, but excited about one YM rookie in particular.
“We have my young boy Euro, and that’s my secret weapon right there,” Wayne boasted to MTV News while on set at the in Los Angeles on March 12.
Euro, who was born in the Dominican Republic but made his rap bones in Rhode Island, made a splash on Wayne’s Dedication 5 mixtape last year and is featured on three tracks off of Rise of an Empire. It was his straight-to-the-point lyrical style that first attracted the YM Boss.
The youngster held his own alongside Wayne on “We Alright” and even landed a solo track on the compilation titled “Induction Speech.” Still, Tunechi promises that there is more in store.
“Please, please, I tell the fans out there, don’t judge the Young Money album as his starting, as his platform to start, because he’s in the trigger,” Wayne said so excitedly that he tripped up his gun metaphor. “He’s in the barrel, loaded, and man, man, man, man, man.”
