Madonna Returns To Director’s Chair For ‘Ade: A Love Story’

Madonna is about to get back in the director’s chair.

The singer has been confirmed to direct “Ade: A Love Story,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s an adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s novel that centers on the love between an American college student and a Swahili man. The two make swift plans to marry but are torn apart by societal pressures.

It’s that tumultuous but passionate kind of love that was also the center of her 2011 feature-length directorial debut, “W.E.,” which followed the real-life love story of Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII.

When we caught up with Madge in 2012 to talk about her approach behind the lens, she told us she approaches the subject of love with “duality,” remembering “there’s no such thing as perfect love.”

“I certainly can relate to all that. I know the agony and ecstasy of love,” she said. “I feel like I’m in a very-qualified position to speak of it and make a film about it. Absolutely, for anyone and anything we love [we make sacrifices]. Love equals sacrifice.”

While this is technically Madonna’s third time behind the lens, her directorial debut, 2008’s comedic “Filth and Wisdom,” was not a feature-length film.

Bruce Cohen (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Jessica Leventhal and Walker (who is the daughter of “The Color Purple” author Alice Walker) will produce.
