If fans were counting down the days to Mariah Carey‘s July 23 album, they’re going to have to wait a bit longer. The singer has confirmed that she is delaying the release of The Art of Letting Go.
“While making this album, I got so immersed in the creative process that I just don’t feel I would be doing it justice to release it on 7/23,” she tweeted late Monday. “I’d rather not exclude meaningful songs. I want to give you this album as it’s meant to be heard. When I’m ready, you’ll be the first 2 know!”
With no word on when the album will drop, Carey is still slated to take the stage at Sunday’s 2013 BET Awards, where she may cross paths with her former “American Idol” rival and fellow performer Nicki Minaj. Other performers include Justin Timberlake, Ciara, India.Arie, Chris Brown, Miguel, R. Kelly and Kendrick Lamar.
“#Beautiful,” Carey’s lead single with Miguel, has been the only taste of the forthcoming album. When MTV News spoke to Miguel last month, he shared why they decided to put that hashtag in the song’s title.
“The hashtag in the title of this song is particularly fitting because the word that comes before ‘beautiful’ when I sing the chorus is an expletive that I can’t say on air,” he said, referring to the F-word he sings on song’s hook. “But the hashtag is particularly fitting for that expletive, if you just kind of pay a little bit of attention.”
In addition to working with Miguel on her 11th studio album, Carey also hit the studio with producers Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox (who produced 2012’s “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)”), Hit-Boy and The-Dream. This album marks her first release since 2009’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
