Michael Phelps Checks Himself Into Rehab After Second DUI

We’re rooting for you, Michael!

After a tumultuous week that saw the best Olympian of all time arrested for his second charge of D.U.I., Michael Phelps took to his public Facebook page and his twitter to announce that he will enter a program to “provide the help I need to better understand myself.”

Phelps was arrested early on Tuesday morning (September 30) after driving 84mph in a 45mph zone, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

According to a report from NBC taken from the MTA, “He “appeared to be under the influence,” and was unable to perform standard field sobriety tests.” Phelps had a blood alcohol level of .14%, well above the Maryland legal limit of .08%.

In 2004, Phelps was sentenced to 18 months of probation stemming from a guilty plea over a drunk driving charge after the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The road to recovery is an ongoing process and one that can’t be solved quickly. Phelps was able to recover from his first charge and we hope he can do it again. Get better, Michael!
