“Adorn” singer Miguel was arrested on a DUI charge on Thursday (August 15), MTV News has confirmed.
Police officials tell us that the singer was initially pulled over for speeding in the L.A. area at 2:15 a.m. but later was booked on a DUI charge and he failed a breathalyzer test. A rep for the singer has not responded to MTV News’ request for comment as of press time.
According to an initial report, the singer was driving his 2013 BMW X6 when he was pulled over for speeding and tinted windows before he underwent several field sobriety tests, during which he blew a .10 and .11. The legal limit in California is .08. He reportedly was booked and released on $5,000 bail. He’s due back in court in September.
The VMA nominee, born Miguel Jontel Pimentel, made waves with his 2012 album Kaleidoscope Dream, which spawned hits like “Adorn,” “Do You” and “How Many Drinks.” Earlier this summer he hooked up with Mariah Carey on her track,
Miguel made headlines in May after he kicked a fan, Khyati Shah, in the head during his performance at the Billboard Music Awards. “In the first night, I’ll tell you, that night I couldn’t sleep. I was worried about the girl, obviously. And wanting her to be OK, and that’s what she told me, she was OK. I was comforted by that,” he said after the incident. “But then, obviously, you never want to make mistakes on camera, in front of millions of people, on live television. But at the same time, the next day, it was OK.
“I started to deal with it, and laugh with it and roll with the punches, and that’s all you can do,” he added. “We’re human … everyone has had a moment like that in some way. It’s just that mine was on television.”
