For months, we’ve been debating just who had the Song of the Summer … so, when we announced that we’d be handing out the inaugural Best Song of the Summer moonman at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, well, we expected it would be a close race.
After four days of voting, that hasn’t been the case.
Though there are six worthy jams competing for your votes — Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop,” Selena Gomez’s “Come & Get It,” Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s “I Need Your Love” and One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” — two songs have pulled way ahead of the pack, and it looks like it’ll come down to 1D vs. Miley for the Summer Song crown.
Yes, the Directioners and the Smilers have been voting early and often, and right now, “Best Song Ever” leads “We Can’t Stop” by more than 600,000 votes. But that lead is shrinking by the second … mostly because Miley has been turning up the heat on Twitter, and it looks like her fans have responded to her pleas.
“Best Song Ever” and “We Can’t Stop” are the only two songs to have crossed the million-vote mark as of Thursday afternoon (1D is actually well past 2 million at this point), and though the Selenators have helped guide “Come & Get It” to a third-place showing, well, they’re going to need to kick it into overdrive if the song stands a chance of catching our top two.
Vote now for the Best Song of the Summer!
As for the rest of the field, well, they’re having a tough time making up ground. “Get Lucky” is stuck in fourth place, followed by “Blurred Lines” and “I Need Your Love.”
Then again, the Best Song of the Summer race is far from over: Voting in the category will remain open until the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards air live on Sunday, August 25 … and you can help your favorite artist win it all via Twitter, Instagram or Vine by using the appropriate hashtag:#votemiley, #votedaftpunk, #voteselena, #voteonedirection, #votethicke or #votecalvinandellie.
