Anyone who has been keeping tabs on Miley Cyrus‘ colorful, eccentric Instagram account knows that the singer has been diving head first into a whole new world of creativity: visual art. Now, Billboard reveals what Miley has really been up—she’s premiering an art collection.
The collection is entitled “Dirty Hippie” and it will premiere this Wednesday (September 10) during Jeremy Scott’s New York Fashion Week show. Starting the day after the show (September 11), it will be on display in the V Magazine offices gallery at 11 Mercer Street in New York. No word yet on how long it will be on display.
Miley appears on the cover of this month’s V Magazine, which is out the same day that her art show premieres. So what inspired her to create this art? When things in her life took a turn for the worse this year.

“This seems so f—ing lame to say but I feel like my art became kind of a metaphor— an example of my life,” Miley said. “Because a bunch of sh—y things kept happening. I’ve always been so f—ing lucky. Everything has always just been easy for me. And at the beginning of this year, I hated 2014 because everything that could go wrong kept going wrong. Being in the hospital, my dog dying…Everything just kept sh—ing on me and sh—ing on me. So then I started taking all of those sh– things and making them good, and being like, I’m using it. My brother and my friends all said that’s what they felt I was doing. So, that’s how I started making art. I had a bunch of f—ing junk and sh–, and so instead of letting it be junk and sh–, I turned it into something that made me happy.”
She was also spurred on by her friendship with Scott, and the desire to be more than a pop star.
“Jeremy brought a lot of peace and self worth to me because even though to some people, it was just me gluing some things together, to me, it made me not a f—ing pop star dumbass. And that’s my goal in my life: to not die a pop pop dumb dumb. I can’t. I will freak out. I just wanted to give myself something I can work at, and even now, if I had more time and I wasn’t on tour, I know I could outdo any of this because I’ve grown while doing it.”
All the pieces were made with things she found or collected while on her Bangerz tour, and even some items that fans gave her. As far as her fans’ reception to the art, Miley is sure they will feel a connection.
“My fans will be into it, especially because I’m involving them,” she said. “It’s building connections with people. And I’ll have my stuff on models—stuff that I’m excited for them to wear. I’m excited. And this is giving me happiness, so that’s all I have to focus on.”
