MTV’s Musical March Madness began with 64 bands … now, after three weeks, millions of votes and nearly as many accusations of cheating (some things never change), we’re down to an Elite 8.
It’s already been a wild ride, but there’s no rest in the quest for the truly toned trophy — voting in our Elite 8 matchups is underway, and polls will remain open until Friday, April 4 at noon ET. So if your favorite band is still in the running, well, you better start clicking.

Still, before we move forward, let’s take a look back at a seriously savage Sweet 16 … a round that saw plenty of back-and-forth battles (and one showdown that went to overtime) plus the birth of a beef between Tokio Hotel and Palaye Royale. Needless to say, it was a round for the ages, though, really, things are just starting to heat up.
Midwest Region
Top-seeded Fall Out Boy are still standing, having survived a tough matchup against #4 Blink-182 in the round of 16. They’re the only #1 remaining in the 2014 tournament, and now, they’ll get a shot at revenge … because for the second-straight year, they’ll face off against Walk The Moon in the Elite 8.
Yes, WTM continue to prove that their run to the 2013 Final Four was no fluke, as they emerged victorious over #10 5 Seconds To Summer in a back-and-forth battle that went down to the wire. Can they make it two in a row over FOB and inch on step closer to the #MMM championship? We’ll find out Friday!
West Region
Things were just as tight in the Wild West, as we witnessed a pair of Sweet 16 battles that were determined by razor-thin margins.
In fact, one of them — #9 Panic! at the Disco vs. #13 AFI — was even closer than that: in a matchup that saw more than 52,000 votes cast, it was AFI who ended up winning by less than 500 … and now, they’ll take on their tourmates, Linkin Park, for a spot in the Final Four.
That’s because #11 LP outlasted upset-minded #10 the Used to earn another trip to the Elite 8. Can Linkin Park finally win the #MMM title? They’re now just three wins away from hoisting the trophy … but besting AFI isn’t gonna be easy.
East Region
Now here’s an Elite 8 matchup: #11 Tokio Hotel will take on #16 Palaye Royale in a battle between two bands whose fan bases don’t like each other very much … especially after the allegations of ballot-stuffing that occurred in the Sweet 16.
First, the drama-free part. TH took care of business against #15 Phantogram, earning their third-straight blowout victory and continuing to look like the band to beat in 2014. But it was the alleged extracurricular activities of the Aliens that really made headlines.
According to plenty of Palaye Royale fans, TH supporters tried very hard to get their band eliminated from the tournament, voting for PR’s opponent, #4 Bastille, and briefly putting them into the lead. Of course, PR staged a furious last-minute comeback, and now, it’s #MMM’s only unsigned band versus the perennial powerhouses for the right to move on to the Final Four. This showdown’s been brewing for weeks, and now, with the bad blood between both fanbases, Palaye versus Tokio is poised to be one of the fiercest in #MMM history. Two (very beautiful) bands enter, but only one will survive!
South Region
If you had #8 Daft Punk taking on #10 We Are The In Crowd in the South final, perhaps you should give Warren Buffett a call.
Yet, after three rounds, it’s the French robots and the Poughkeepsie pop-punkers who are still standing, and one of them will advance to the Final Four. Daft Punk took care of business against #12 A Day To Remember, and WATIC knocked off another top-seed in the Sweet 16, powering past #3 Foo Fighters.
Who will win this most improbable of Elite 8 battles? Shoot, at this point, your guess is as good as ours. But that’s what makes #MMM so magical … you’re never quite sure how it’ll end up!
So who will survive to the Final Four? That’s up to you! Elite 8 voting is now underway in #MMM, and if your favorites are still alive, you can guide them to the 2014 title. Polls will remain open until Friday, April 4 at noon ET.
