Naya Rivera Welcoming Demi Lovato To The ‘Dark Side’ On ‘Glee’

Big things are on the horizon for “Glee” star Naya Rivera. With the season premiere of her Fox show kicking off on September 26, the singer is also prepping the release of her debut album. And while the album has yet to get a formal release, her single, “Sorry,” is ready to be officially unleashed.

“Yeah, you know, I teased a little bit of the cover art last week and it drops on iTunes next week. And so I’m very excited,” she told MTV News on Sunday on the red carpet at the VMAs. “It’s a personal thing and I’m really looking forward to people getting to see Naya outside of Santana on ‘Glee.’ “

Rivera enlisted boyfriend Big Sean to appear on the song with her. On it, she doesn’t apologize for hooking up with the Detroit MC and calls out some of his former flames by name, which has reportedly prompted a response or two from them. However, the only response Naya has seen is from her fans. She said, “I only saw good things from my fans. They seem to really like it.”

So would her “Glee” character enjoy the tune? “She loves it! Duh!”

While part of her focus is on promoting her new music, Rivera is also hard at work shooting the next season of “Glee.” Production for the first three episodes is under way, including the Cory Monteith tribute episode, slated to air in October. “We’re still shooting them. We’re shooting three episodes at one time right now, and it’s awesome,” she said of the Beatles-themed eps, airing as the first two episodes of the fifth season. “We get to sing all of the best Beatles songs.”

In addition to finding love in real life with her “Sorry” collaborator, her small-screen character, Santana, will also be falling for someone. And it just so happens to be Demi Lovato, who joins “Glee” this season for a multi-episode arc.

“I mean, she’s playing my love interest, so I’m very, very excited about that,” she said. “We get to sing a song together. It’s gonna be good. I’m excited to work with her. We’re bringing her to the dark side. Well, she comes in in a Beatles episode, so [we’re singing] a Beatles song. I’m excited.”

Once the Beatles episodes wrap up, Gleeks will get to say goodbye to Monteith, who died in July at the age of 31, during the third episode of the season, airing October 10. Rivera said, “We’ve been shooting it. It’s horrible. So many, so many [memories]. He was an amazing guy and I definitely miss him.”
