Well, his first hit was called “Country Grammar:” Nelly has been added to the list of performers for the 2013 CMT Music Awards, where he’ll join breakout stars Florida Georgia Line for a version of their crossover hit “Cruise.” A remix of the song, featuring the St. Louis rapper, currently sits at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Nelly isn’t the only new name added to the CMT bill … Lenny Kravitz has also been announced as a performer on Wednesday night’s show, teaming with co-host Jason Aldean for an as-yet-unannounced number. Aldean is no stranger to mixing it up at the Awards, either: two years ago he invited Ludacris on stage for a version of his hit “Dirt Road Anthem.”
Kravitz and Nelly are just the latest names to be added to the bill for the CMT Music Awards; last month, Taylor Swift and Hunter Hayes were announced, along with Luke Bryan, Little Big Town and Pistol Annies. Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and many more will also perform during the show, and recently reunited act the Mavericks will serve as the house band. Aldean will share hosting duties with actress Kristen Bell.
Eric Church, Bryan and Miranda Lambert lead all nominees for the 2013 awards with four each. Just behind them with three each are Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and first-time nominees Florida Georgia Line, while Underwood, Brad Paisley, Hayes, Jana Kramer, Journey, Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Town, Swift and McGraw scored two each.
The 2013 CMT Music Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.
