No, Drunk Old Guy, Mindy Kaling Is Not Nobel Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai

After participating in a Q&A as part of the New Yorker Festival on October 11, Mindy Kaling — writer and star of “The Mindy Project” — attended an after-party where an older drunk man apparently thought she was Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 10 for her work championing education for girls around the world. The 17-year-old activist is the youngest person to ever receive the prestigious award.

Kaling was not awarded the Nobel Prize earlier this month, but that didn’t stop a drunk man in his 80s from congratulating her profusely at New York’s Boom Boom Room. He also complimented the TV star on how well she had recovered from being shot in the head and neck by the Taliban.

The actress wasn’t sure if he was joking or if he was earnestly confused. “Did he really think I’m Malala? And that if I were, I’d be at the Boom Boom Room?” she said. Either way, she seemed to think the mix-up was hilarious. Trust Mindy to take it all in stride.
