No, You Can’t Bring Nunchucks, And Answers To 7 Other Essential Governors Ball Questions

The fourth annual Governors Ball is kicking off Friday (June 6) in New York City with a full slate of performers that continues on both Saturday and Sunday. Whether this is your first time or you’re an old pro, whether you’re going just one day or all three, you’ve got to be prepare accordingly. Fear not, though. We’ve got the answers to all your questions.

Where is Randall’s Island?
It’s a little plot of land on the East River, situated between Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx.

What should I wear?
It’s supposed to be beautiful all weekend, with highs in the mid-80s and no rain in the forecast. So dress accordingly.

You’ll likely be on your feet for a majority of the day, too, so make sure whatever’s on them feels good. And with grass and dirt as your terrain, it’s probably not worth it to break out those new pair of Js, either. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Hold on…this is on an island? How the hell do I get there?
No need for the hostility. There are actually plenty of ways to get to Randall’s Island.

From Manhattan, you can take a ferry from East 35th Street and the FDR Drive, which runs every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 per day (including the service charge) or $60 for the weekend. Another option is the X80 bus, which runs from 125th Street and takes you straight to the Island for a $6 round-trip fare.

If you’re in Brooklyn, you can take a shuttle from Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, with tickets running you $70 for the weekend or $30 for the day.

No matter where you’re coming from, you have the option of driving to the venue, too. But if you do, remember to choose a designated driver, folks.

Can I bring my nunchuks?
Sadly, no, you cannot bring your nunchuks (yes, this is specified on the Governors Ball site and on tickets). Nor can you bring any other kinds of weapons, which is certainly a good thing.

You also can’t bring alcohol (but can buy some there), a camera with a detachable lens, a cooler, glass containers, or fireworks. Seems reasonable enough.

Ok, no nunchucks. What’s the most important thing that I can bring that I better not forget?
Your ticket. Definitely bring your ticket.

Well, what’s the second most important?
Enough with your rankings requests.

Without creating a hierarchy, here are some other essentials: Water (they’ll have that, but you gotta stay hydrated); sunscreen; cash (they’ll have ATMs, but there will likely be lines and fees); sunglasses; some kind of sheet to sit on; your phone and a portable charger; a bag to store all this stuff.

Wait, who’s actually performing at this thing?
Really? You took it there?

Some major names will be at this year’s festival across four stages, including Outkast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Disclosure, The Strokes, Skrillex, J. Cole, Childish Gambino, Janelle Monae, Chance the Rapper and dozens more. You can check out the full line up here.

So, if there are four stages, how do I get around?
The stages aren’t not too far away from each other, luckily. This map should help, but also make sure you plan how you’ll be bouncing around.

There’s also an app that can be your one-spot shop as a place to set your schedule, check out photos and more.

Now you’re on your own. Have fun.
