‘Pretty Little Liars’ Turns 100: Watch 99 Lies From The First 99 Episodes

“Pretty Little Liars” will officially air its 100th episode on July 8, and my oh my, look at how far we’ve come. Alison is alive, multiple members of local law enforcement (and Shana) are dead, and Hanna even dyed her hair! On paper, the ladies of Rosewood have really come a long way.

But when you look a little bit deeper, everything is pretty much the same as it was on day one. Nobody knows who tried to kill Alison, Aria is still in love with Ezra, and the uber-A remains as elusive as ever. We’d say we don’t know how this happened, but we definitely do — it’s the lies! When everybody keeps lying to everybody else, nothing gets done, and no show has proved this better than “Pretty Little Liars.”

This is why we at MTV News have painstakingly pored over the first 99 episodes, to call out celebrate the first 99 lies that got us here, and put them into one pretty little video for everyone to enjoy — singling out a few of the recurring whoppers that keep rearing their ugly heads, of course. So sit back, relax, and take a trip down “Liars” memory lane. Who knows, maybe it will even inspire you to tell the truth…

The Ezria Lie

Definition: A lie about or within the Aria and Ezra relationship, like “I’m leaning toward English” or “he’s only my English teacher.”
Examples: 1, 8, 10, 32, 39, 45, 56, 75, 83, 84, 91

The Half-Truth
Definition: Saying “yeah” to a false statement or leaving out a major part of the truth; acknowledging that you haven’t seen Shana but neglecting to mention that it’s because you murdered her.
Examples: 8, 36, 51, 62, 64, 86, 87, 98

The Identity Theft

Definition: Lying about one’s identity, often to sneak in or out of Radley Sanitarium, or to pretend to be Melissa Hastings, for some reason.
Examples: 25, 38, 41, 50, 59, 78, 89

The Montgomery Family Half-Truth
Definition: A lie told by Aria, Ella, Byron, or Mike Montogmery, used to cover up one’s own actions so that their family members will be left completely in the dark.
Examples: 15, 16, 20, 26, 29, 32, 39, 45, 68

The Hastings Sister Deception

Definition: A lie told by Spencer or Melissa Hastings when one does not want the other to know what sort of treachery they are up to.
Examples: 23, 24, 44, 95

The Ridiculously, Glaringly Obvious Lie
Definition: A lie that is so absurd that anyone with half a brain would instantly know it to be untrue, like saying you’re blind when you are not, in fact, actually blind.
Examples: 27, 30, 31, 67, 48, 49, 61, 72, 80, 81, 92, 95, 99

The Lie That Goes Against Ones Own Self-Interest
Definition: A masochistic lie that only makes things worse, like saying “I was kidnapped” to a group of (seemingly) honest cops when you were not, in fact, actually kidnapped.
Examples: Um, pretty much everything on here. But mostly 97.
