It is the most important question of our time: Are you Team Backstreet Boys or Team ‘NSYNC?
This morning, we heard Maggie’s argument on why she is all about JT and the rest of the boys, and while she did have some valid points, I’m going to have to say “Bye Bye Bye” because I have news: The Backstreet Boys are the best boy band of all time.
Of course, some of you are going to side with ‘NSYNC and try to defend Chris Kirkpatrick’s pineapple haircut, but there’s just no arguing with the style, sound and all-out greatness that is Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson.
In case you need a fresher, here is why you should be team BSB:
The Best Boy Band Song Of All Time
I’ll give it to you: “Bye Bye Bye” was a great song, but when you ask someone to name the most popular boy band song of all time they will most likely say “I Want It That Way.” Try it, see what happens. And don’t even get me started on that video, those dance moves in all white, the screaming fans, Kevin’s solo?! Too much too handle.
They performed a concert… in heaven
‘NSYNC may have been featured on “The Simpsons,” but were they featured in one of the funniest movies of 2013, “This Is The End”? Nope. The boy band give a private concert in heaven to Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen. I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty much how I envision the afterlife.
We didn’t have ramen noodle hair, we had middle parts.
Sure it may have been Justin’s claim to fame back in the day, but did he rock a middle part bowl cut like Nick Carter? I don’t think so.
‘Larger Than Life’ – all about the fans in space.
Backstreet Boys created the ultimate fan-dedicated song when they wrote “Larger Than Life” and made us believe that their love for us was truly out-of-this-world with their space-themed music video. The sweetest lyric in the song has to be: “Wishin’ I could thank you in a different way, c’mon/ ‘Cause all of your time spent keeps us alive.”
Kevin left – and couldn’t help but come back.
Kevin left BSB in 2006 to pursue “other interests” — start a family, be normal — and I was in tears. Luckily, the rest of the band stuck together to make two studio albums: Unbreakable in 2007 and then This Is Us in 2009. Lo and behold, three years later in 2012, Kevin returned!
Still together.
This is definitely the most important reason why BSB trumps ‘NSYNC. And yes, I know they all joined Justin Timberlake onstage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but BSB still tours and they just came out with an album last year. ‘NSYNC’s last studio album came out in 2001. I’m definitely not counting “The Essential.”
So… Backstreet or NSYNC? State your case.
