Reese Witherspoon has pled no contest to charges associated with her arrest in Atlanta last month, the same day video of the incident has made its way online.
On Thursday, the same day she sat down with “Good Morning America” to open up about the arrest, video from the April 19 incident hit TMZ. In it, the Oscar winner argues with the arresting officer about her rights as an American. Her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, looks on and at one point apologizes for Witherspoon’s actions during the arrest.
He was in Atlanta on Thursday, where he pled guilty to charges associated with his DUI arrest that same night, the site further reports. While the actress wasn’t present, she pled no contest to her disorderly conduct charge with her lawyer representing her.
“Consider yourself fortunate you didn’t injure your passenger [Reese] and didn’t kill anyone,” the judge reportedly told Toth at the hearing.
Toth was sentenced to 40 hours of community service, must attend an alcohol education program and will be on probation for 12 months. People further reports that he was also ordered to pay a fine in connection with his punishment. As for Witherspoon, she will pay a $213 fine for refusing to stay in the car the night of the incident.

While on “GMA,” the “Mud” star opened up about some of the comments she made during her arrest, noting that “I have no idea what I was saying that night. I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked and I said all kinds of crazy things.”
In the footage from the incident, Reese confronts the officer, trying to convince him she is pregnant (she has confirmed she’s not) and later saying to him, “I’m a U.S. citizen. I’m allowed to stand on American ground and ask any question I want to ask. You better not arrest me.”
Even after Toth tells her to “relax,” she asks the officer, “I’m obstructing your justice? Really? I’m being anti-American?” Eventually, perplexed that she is being arrested for not following his orders, she says, “Wow! Interesting, arresting me.”
With two weeks behind her since the incident, Witherspoon cites “bad judgment” for how she acted that night. “We had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive. We absolutely were not and it’s just completely unacceptable, and we are so sorry and embarrassed,” she said on “GMA.” “And we know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”
She continued, “And you know, it was just poor judgment and we made a mistake. And it was absolutely something that will never happen again — just bad judgment, you know.”
