Rita Ora Launched A Perfume With The Guy Who Invented Cronuts

There are few things worth standing in line with a swarm of tourists on a sweltering day in New York City.

But one of those things is, of course, eating celebrity-status pastry chef Dominique Ansel’s limited-edition confections. (When he teamed up with Shake Shack on a cronut concrete that was available one day only, people started lining up at 4 a.m.). Another one of those things is a chance to meet Rita Ora. And both of those things went down in Madison Square Park yesterday morning for the launch of DKNY’s new MYNY fragrance.

Rita was flanked be her pal Chrissy Teigen—who is, yes, beautiful, and who did, yes, actually eat a pastry (she’s a huge foodie, though, so that’s actually not that surprising). Dominique was there, too, shaking hands and kissing babies and generally reminding everyone exactly why they stand in line for hours to taste a donut-shaped croissant.

Today’s treat wasn’t a cronut, but rather a fancy heart-shaped pretzel with a raspberry honey butter dip inspired by the fragrance’s raspberry notes and heart-shaped bottle. (Does a dessert inspired by perfume sound gross? Because I can assure you, as someone who scarfed one down so fast I wouldn’t even remember eating it were it not for the literal explosion in my mouth, it was the furthest thing from gross.)

But none of that was as exciting as seeing Rita Ora shine brighter than the Chrysler Building in a silver lamé number designed by DKNY—and I can say that with confidence, because it was right there behind her in the skyline and I was able to do a side-by-side comparison.

She took a break from nibbling on gourmet soft pretzels and girl-talking with Chrissy to spill about being the face of MYNY. “I moved to New York when I was 17 to finish my first ever album. I went from living in a house with my sisters to living in a massive apartment in the middle of Brooklyn,” she said. “I grew up really fast! New York is full of memories, and it’s an incredible place.”

And because when you’re within a 10 feet radius of Rita, it’s absolutely necessary to beg her for clues about her upcoming Adidas line, we brought up the whole Beyonce-wearing-her-clothes thing. “I honestly created it for people to just feel fun and comfortable and sexy in it, and to have someone like Queen Beyonce even wear my collection…” she said, trailing off in disbelief. “I love her, personally!” Beyhive represent! Stars—they’re just like us, Yonce-gushing and all.
