“You know you want it” not to be true: Robin Thicke and Paula Patton are separating.
The married couple of nine years announced on Monday (February 24) that they’re calling it quits, telling People, “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”
A rep for Thicke confirmed the statement to MTV News.
The actress and the actor met when Thicke was 14. After getting married in 2005, they had a son, Julian Feugo, who is now 3 years old.
The couple has stayed close in the past year, despite some controversy with Thicke’s very naked “Blurred Lines” video and his twerking scandal with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. We talked to the couple on the red carpet for Patton’s “Baggage Claim,” where her hubby gushed about her performance.
Paula also has been a huge supporter of his music, telling MTV News “I love ‘Blurred Lines‘; I listen to it when I run on the treadmill all the time. It’s just … it’s just great.”
Asked to pick a favorite, Patton was stumped before settling on a particularly sentimental track.
“I have a lot of favorites — it would be hard to say one — but he has a song called ‘4 the Rest of My Life,’ which is a story based on our love ’cause we’ve known each other since we were teenagers,” Patton said of the ballad that finds Thicke remarking of their first meeting, “We ain’t even 20, baby.” “That always gets me a little choked up,” she admitted.
